We are proud to announce the New Tactics – NED Sponsored Partner Grant Organizations for 2007-2008. We’ve provided a very brief summary of the goals and materials targeted for translation by each organization. We encourage you to visit the organizational websites, where listed, so you can explore the variety of human rights work in which they are involved. We are looking forward to sharing the results of their translations and efforts with the broad New Tactics network in the months to come.
Bangladesh, Coastal Development Partnership (CDP)
Goal: Develop capacity of human rights NGOs on New Tactics Tools and introducing New Tactics materials to the media, civil society groups and national human rights defenders of Bangladesh. Incorporate New Tactics tools by human rights networks in their strategies towards a single key rights related campaign.
Translation: Translation of the New Tactics in Human Rights: A Resource for Practitioners book, eleven tactical notebooks (600 pages), and New Tactics website content into Bangla.
Cameroon, Trauma Centre Cameroon
Goal: Facilitate the strategy for the creation of New Tactics focal points and enlarge the participants and audience of the New Tactics project in the Central African sub-region. Enhance the development of hidden innovative tactical experiences that can be shared with others using the New Tactics website. Create local outreach campaign programs in French and in English over radio and TV stations to broadcast relevant stories, New Tactics methods, concepts, ideas and materials to a broader Cameroonian audience. Outreach to over 1300 NGOs and institutions in Cameroon and the Central African sub-region.
Translation: Translation of the New Tactics in Human Rights: A Resource for Practitioners into French.
Croatia, B.a.B.e. (Be active, Be emancipated) - Women’s Human Rights Group
Goal: Improvement of the strategies and tactics of civil society organizations and groups in the Balkan Region for development of democratic societies that respect human rights; improvement of cooperation and experience exchange among many civil society organizations and groups of the Balkan region network; and movement toward joint campaigns organized with the help of New Tactics tools and materials. Outreach to over 300 organizations in the Balkan region.
Translation: Translation of the New Tactics in Human Rights: A Resource for Practitioners book into Croatian; tactical thinking training tools; and New Tactics web pages into Croatian and featured also on Ekviva – B.a.B.e.’s network portal.
Indonesia, People’s Empowerment Consortium (PEC)
(A new partner organization)
Goal: Provide New Tactics materials in Indonesian (Bahasa) and facilitate workshops and the creation of discussion forums in four cities to elaborate new strategies and tactics in human rights advocacies and design tactics together with civil society activists in Indonesia for implementation and integration into the local and national context.
Translation: Translation of the New Tactics in Human Rights: A Resource for Practitioners and New Tactics training materials into Bahasa.
Kenya, African Democracy Forum (ADF)
Goal: Focus on a strategy that includes a large campaign on changing the Africa culture in terms of women’s political participation and empowerment of women in politics; focus on gender issues especially in public affairs participation with support from rights and democracy. Outreach to members of the ADF (300 organizations) and World Movement for Democracy (NED) network.
Translation: New Tactics materials into French and Swahili.
Kyrgyzstan, HumanRightsCenter “Citizens against corruption”

Goal: Provide access to New Tactics materials to more than 10.000 citizens, 200 NGOs, government institutions of central government as well as all seven oblasts of the country, 75 deputies and their staff; and media outreach. In addition, three New Tactics forums will be conducted in three regions of the country. Publication of tactics in "Pluralism" – a publication which reaches 6,000 people.
Translation: Translation of materials include seven tactical notebooks (150 pages) into Kyrgyz, identified as specific tactics of interest to network partners and other human rights organizations.
Timor Leste, Forum Solidaridade Buka Hatene (FORSANE)

Goal: Develop and utilize training modules featuring translated New Tactics materials into Tetum and Bahasa for capacity building and providing access to materials from New Tactics and other websites accessed by East Timorese students studying abroad. The training forums will target 50 people from 34 organizations consisting of community groups, nationally-based and internationally-based NGOs in Timor Leste.
Translation: Translation of the New Tactics in Human Rights: A Resource for Practitioners into Tetum and 20 tactical notebooks (617 pages) into Tetum and/or Bahasa.
Zimbabwe, Kubatana Trust
Goal: Provide a New Tactics newspaper publication for Zimbabweans working in the area of human rights with examples of non-violent collective action as well as creative tactics and strategies which are relevant and inspiring. Encourage creative, strategic and thoughtful development of strategies and tactics within the pro-democracy movement in Zimbabwe. Strengthen knowledge of New Tactics work in the southern African region through the submission of feature stories to the regional press giving insights into New Tactics in Human Rights case studies and resources. Outreach to over 240 NGOs and an email subscriber list of about 3000 members. The translated New Tactics materials will expand a current on-line archive of information produced for and about the civil society sectors which currently comprises more than 7000 documents.
Translation: Translation of material into Shona and Ndebele, as well as English, to reach Zimbabwe’s three main language groups.
