Colby College in Waterville, Maine, USA announces the opening for applications for the 2010 Oak Human Rights Fellowship, that is sponsored by the Oak Institute for the Study of International Human Rights at Colby College. The 2010 fall semester fellowship in residence (mid-August to mid-December) is specifically seeking for a front-line activist in need of a short respite from the stress of their on-the-ground work to provide the activist with the opportunity to leave the work for a bit, to reflect, write, and communicate their work to the Colby Campus
community.
The fellowship provides a stipend of USD32,000 for duration of the fellowship plus transportation, housing, health care coverage and other fringe benefits. They also encourage the fellow to bring family through limited financial support for their travel as well. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2009.

- Living standards and health care in prisons
- Education for inmates
- Torture
- Rape
- Brutality
- Disciplinary procedures
- Right to legal representation
- Pre-trial detention
- Gender and racial discrimination in incarceration

- Political prisoners
- Illegal detention
- Death penalty
