Well International Torture Day passed South Africans by without making the slightest blip on our radars. A very, very sad state of affairs. Given the historical proximity of the apartheid regime, the fact that thousands of tortured exiles from Eastern and Central Africa are looking to South Africa for protection, and the trickle of torture allegations still being made against South African police and prison officials, this is a great pity indeed.
