Here at New Tactics, we are working on putting together a schedule of the upcoming featured dialogue topics for at least the next six months. How do we decide on the topics? Well, this is how I would like to decide - have you tell me! Often, we decide on topics based on featured practitioners that we know will be available during a certain time. Otherwise, we sometimes just pick what we think is interesting. Here's what we have on the docket:
- March 24 - 30 the topic is on using humor: Tactics That Tickle: Laughing All the Way to the Win
- April 21 - 27 the topic is on conflict transformation: Engaging youth in non-violent alternatives to militarism
- May 26 - June 1 - ?
- June - skip
- July 21 - 27 the topic is on Security for Human Rights Defenders (both information communication technology and physical security)
- August 25 - 31 the topic will hopefully be on anti-corruption tactics (to be narrowed-down - any suggestions?)
- September 22 - 28 - ?
- October 27 - November 2 - ?
Here are a few of the topics that we have been considering to highlight in upcoming featured dialogues:
- Using community and short wave radio to share critical information to communities
- Domesticating international human rights law
- Topic around prison reform
- Self-care for human rights defenders/practitioners
- Using literature, poetry and story-telling for human rights
- Using ranking and rating tactics to encourage human rights compliance
- Human rights and the corporation
- Using sports for human rights (engaging and mobilizing communities, education, conflict transformation, etc)
- Other topics?
What topics would you like to see discussed in a featured dialogue on the New Tactics website? Do any of teh topics listed above stand out above the rest? What topics can you help to lead the discussion for? With so many important and interesting topics to cover, we need YOUR help in prioritizing these topics and finding out what is important to YOU!
We need to hear from YOU!
Please share your feedback by adding your comments to this post (below). Thank you!

Dialogue topics
Hi Kirstin,
a great range of topics so far on the list. I'm glad that you have a security dialogue coming up - it may be worth considering a section of that on 'responding to repression' and a discussion on the dynamics, goals and impacts of political repression which would set the scene for a discussion of the approaches to security. Regardless i wil be keen to contribute.
I also particulary like the 'self care for HRD' topic on the list - preventing burn-out etc is also a topic that i think is very important and may be worth holding soon after the security one as there is a connection - perhaps September - so it can be linked.
Additionally, I'd like to see something on 'Strategic planning and Campiagn planning' or "Planning a strategic HR campaign" which is something the Change Agency here in Australia would also be keen to contribute to.
hope that is vaguely useful.
great list and keep up the fantastic work at New Tactics

Thanks for your suggestions, Anthony!
Yes, I completely agree - self-care is so important in this line of work and it is intimately connected to security issues. I think you may be right that we should have that dialogue soon after the security dialogue. I think our August dialogue will focus on corruption - but the September one is open. Great idea!
I would also love to see a dialogue on strategic thinking - we have been thinking about this for a while. We are currently working on our New Tactics Facilitation and Methodology Guides (testing them now) so I hope that we can share these with you all soon, and get a dialogue started from there. We will be sure to contact you right away when we figure something out.
I like your idea on having 'responding to repression' as a topic - and I hope that all of our dialogues and tactics speak to that topic is some way.
Please continue sharing your ideas!
