New Tactics Grant Partner Detained in Krygyz Republic

One of the New Tactics project grant partners, Tolekan Ismailova, director of the Human Rights Center/Citizens Against Corruption in Bishkek, Krygyz Republic, was arrested outside the parliament on December 18th along with 20 young people. After there release, Tolekan was re-arrested on December 20th along with 31 young people. They were peacefully protesting irregularities of the December 16th parliamentary elections.

For more information see the WLP Women's Learning Partnership website : A closed door sentancing took place on the evening of December 20th, behind closed doors and Tolekan was sentenced to 7 days and 7 nights. Most activists received sentences ranging from 5 to 7 days and some were fined.

    An interview with Tolekan
