I am seeking out people who have engaged in protest fasts and or hunger strikes and legal and medical personnel experienced in first hand support to fasts/fasters/hunger strikers. I am especially interested in resources in the NYC/Northeast Corridor area.

Using the power of the media to send targeted messages to people in a position to end abuses

Radio Publique Africaine (RPA) used its power as a media entity to influence individuals and groups who could help fix the situation in the Burundi’s hospitals, where poor people were being held against their will because they could not pay their bills. Eventually, in partnership with local NGOs, APR successfully pressured the government to order the people’s release.

This notebook describes how one organization (ICAR) in Romania was able to pressure the government to accept its moral and legal obligation to provide care to torture victims.  The group had international support but they recognized that it was the states responsibility to rehabilitate this socially marginalized group.
