Alexandra Halkin
is an independent documentary video producer and the founding director
of the Chiapas Media Project/ Promedios de Comunicación Comunitaria.
She has been producing documentaries for the last 25 years. In 1995,
she started developing the Chiapas Media Project (CMP)/Promedios, a
bi-national partnership that provides video and computer equipment and
training for indigenous communities in Southern Mexico. Since 1998, the
CMP/Promedios has trained over 200 indigenous men and women in video
production in Chiapas and Guerrero, Mexico. CMP/Promedios award winning
videos have been broadcast in Mexico, US, Canada, and New Zealand and
screened at film and video festivals, universities and museums
worldwide. Alexandra has consulted with various organizations such as
Witness, the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights, and
CLACPI (Latin American Council for Indigenous Film and Communication).
In 2004, Alexandra was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for the Latin
American Indigenous Video Initiative (LAIVI). Most recently in 2007,
Alexandra was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the Indigenous
Audiovisual Archive (IAA) in Oaxaca, Mexico.

I'm a 48 years old school teacher involved in Peace Education for more than 20 years.

I've been and I'm still part of War Resisters' International through the Spanish section Antimilitarist Alternative/MOC. The special section I'm part of is in charge of War Tax Resistance. It's by doing this work as I have met groups all over the world.

Ocasionally I join Women in Black in Madrid to denounce the effects of war and militarism.

Margarita Lacabe is the Executive Director of Derechos Human Rights, an
ngo working for the promotion and respect to human rights and
humanitarian law all over the world. As such, she directs a leading
human rights website, edits Koaga Rone'eta, an online human rights
journal, and provides assistance to local NGOs and victims of human
rights violations. She also collaborates with the criminal procedures
against Argentine and Chilean military in Spain and Argentina. She
coordinates Project Disappeared, an online memorial and information
center on the victims of forced disappearances around the world. Other
areas of interest include international justice and the global state of
exception. Margarita's early experience includes coordinating a local group of Amnesty Internationa and working with APRODEH and the Coordinadora Nacional de
Derechos Humanos in Perú . Recently, she served as an advisor to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

Margarita was born in La Plata, Argentina, and currently resides in
California. She is a graduate of the University of California at
Berkeley and the University of California, Hastings
College of Law, and also attended the American University in Cairo and UCLA.
