The New Tactics Database

The New Tactics Database

All over the world people are using innovative tactics to help end human rights abuses. In many cases other human rights advocates would benefit from learning about their experiences.

The New Tactics database is a collection of these tactics, described in a way that we hope will inspire other human rights advocates to apply them to their own situations.
Browse Cases
Here you can browse a full list of tactics to get an idea of the breadth of work being done. You can view the list organized by tactic name, tactic type, organization or region.

Keyword Search
On this page, you can search for terms relevant to cases you are interested in, or choose from a list of keyword searches made by previous visitors.

For example: a search for "children" will find tactics dealing with youth empowerment, child soldiering, and using technology to advance children’s rights, while a search for "Asia education" will yield cases related to women’s rights in the Middle East, training in the application of international law, and rural education and legal assistance in Thailand.

Once you have found a tactic, the "case details" page provides inclusive information on the tactic: a theoretical and practical profile of the case, available in both "summary" and "full story" formats; information about the organization involved; and a classification of the tactic according to its intervention type, specific goals, and sector of society it aims to affect.

If a tactic in our database interests you, you can begin or contribute to a discussion in our Discussions area.

We would like your help and input as we continue to expand the scope of our database. Please use the Share a Tactic form to tell us about creative human rights efforts, or send us an e-mail at NewTactics [at] cvt [dot] org to give us suggestions on the database itself.
