It has taken me longer than I expected to get settled here in San Cristobal de Las Casas. I still haven't found a little apartment to live in but I do leave on a 15 day observation trip on Tuesday (May 29) with the Human Rights Center Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas. So maybe it is for the better that I won't be paying rent on a place that I won't even be liviing in. I want to use my grant money the best way as possible and I would rather use it for educational materials, books, etc., than paying rent.
I will defintely post more when I can but I still have some things I need to get together before go out to the jungle on Tuesday. Also, I have been taking photos of the graffitti on the walls around town, it is really interesting and I want to capture as much of it as I can. That in itself could be a cool project and maybe I will make it one on the side. I have attached an example, the wall reads ("The revolution started", which sounds kind of wierd in English but I think from the verb tense that is used it really gives the feeling of, "the revolution is already here so watch out!" I try to go earlier in the morning when there are less people on the street and it is really quiet. Plus, the whole taking pictures thing here doesn't seem to go over very well with the majority of people, which is understandable. Would you want some foreginer coming to your little comunity to take pictures then leave a short while later? There is somethign strangely odd about it and the longer I am here it makes more sense to me.
