Citizens Against Corruption has put New Tactics tools to work on a variety of human rights fronts in Kyrgyzstan , from women’s rights to environmental justice to mobilizing young people to vote.

Using a New Tactics notebook about human rights improvements in Northern Ireland, CAC learned methods for monitoring Kyrgyz prisons to try to prevent forced confessions and torture. Another notebook, from South Africa , offered guidance on tracking local government budgets in ways that could improve the socioeconomic conditions of residents. A third notebook on adapting traditional human rights monitoring techniques was used to train young people on election monitoring. A New Tactics workshop on using video as a human rights tool inspired CAC to make a documentary about the plight of refugees within the country’s borders.

CAC has translated numerous New Tactics publications into both Russian and Kyrgyz, to get information about new approaches to the widest number of people. The organization also has utilized New Tactics materials to create breakthrough seminars and workshops about women’s issues, the impact of mining on communities, and the legal rights of victims of injustice.

There’s much work yet to be done on the ground in Kyrgyzstan , but for activists around the world, CAC can serve as a model for putting New Tactics to use.
