Accompanying human rights activists to protect them from danger

An accompaniment volunteer is a compelling and visible reminder to those using violence, that it will not go unnoticed. Peace Bridges International, an international NGO, organizes volunteers from around the world to visit countries such as Guatemala to accompany civil society leaders who risk injury or death. The foreign volunteers spend up to 24 hours a day with these individuals, serving as a visible reminder that there will be an international response to any use of violence.
