CVT-New Tactics in Human Rights Project
The New Tactics in Human Rights Project promotes tactical innovation and strategic thinking within the international human rights community. Innovative tactics are emerging that may more effectively advance human rights and end persistent human rights problems. Many innovations have been valuable, yet are not well known outside their regions. The New Tactics in Human Rights project promotes the use and sharing of as wide a range of tactics as possible. The project is coordinated by CVT and grew out of its experience as an organization that also advocates for the protection of human rights from a unique position - one of healing and reclaiming civic leadership.
CVT-International Capacity Building Project
CVT-International Capacity Building Project works with treatment centers throughout the world to expand their capacity to provide high-quality services to torture survivors. The program, the International Capacity-Building Project, is funded by a four-year grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The goals of the program are to make each center more stable organizationally and financially; to expand the centers' clinical capacity; and to help them develop effective advocacy campaigns, including community outreach and public education. The participating treatment centers are located in Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Kosovo, Namibia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Peru, Romania, Rwanda, South Africa and Uganda.
CVT International Services works in areas where conflict and torture has resulted in widespread devastation of the community. When political violence intentionally destroys a community, the society itself must heal before peace and democracy can flourish. Healing survivors of torture and war trauma is integral to the process of rebuilding. CVT International Services provides mental health services in an effective, efficient and sustainable manner so that survivors of torture and trauma can resume their life. CVT targets those communities with high numbers of survivors and few sources of help such as in post-conflict or refugee camp situations. While working directly with survivors, CVT is also helping build the infrastructure to meet the mental health needs beyond the tenure of this project.
Liberia National Law Enforcement Association (LINLEA)
The Liberia National Law Enforcement Association (LINLEA) was established in March 1994 as a professional, non-partisan, and non-profit organization to bring together law enforcement personnel and support staff to constitute a consolidated association or consortium that would promote professionalism within law enforcement and other criminal justice institutions. Serving as a voice of law enforcement in Liberia, LINLEA represents police offices, immigration and fire service personnel, correction officers, industrial and private security personnel and law enforcement support staff throughout Liberia. LINLEA'S primary goals are to improve the quality of law enforcement services and personnel, and promote a more democratic and humane service on the part of justice-related institutions in Liberia. LINLEA also seeks to maintain a non-partisan profession; advocate for improved working conditions, better salaries and adequate training and education for law enforcement personnel; and encourage community participation in meeting the challenges of crimes and disorder in our society.
