Alex is a senior lecturer in environmental health in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, University of Otago, New Zealand. Her research is at the nexus of health, equity and environmental sustainability in cities. She is particularly interested in policy-making processes that bring together these three objectives in areas like transport and housing. She is a co-founder and current co-convenor of OraTaiao: NZ Climate & Health Council, an NGO with over 450 health professional members using a range of public health action to influence climate policy and the public debate about climate change in New Zealand. As part of the Global Climate & Health Alliance, Alex was in Paris for the COP21.
