Charles Abbott, Staff Attorney at the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), received his Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Modern Languages from the College of William & Mary, both in the United States, and was a 2008 Fulbright scholar at the National University of La Plata, Argentina. Prior to joining CEJIL, Mr. Abbott worked as a Human Rights Specialist at the Office of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression at the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights. He has contributed research and drafted reports for the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and the UN Committee Against Torture, in addition to previously working as a legal intern at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the Inter-American Commission. At CEJIL, Mr. Abbott’s litigation and advocacy work includes cases from the United States, the Dominican Republic and the Northern Andean region, including cases dealing with the rights of migrants and stateless persons, the right to nationality, the rights of persons deprived of liberty and the prohibition of torture, forced disappearances and extrajudicial executions, among others.
