Hawi Tilahune is third year student at Macalester college, pursuing International Studies and Political Science with an African Studies concentration. She is currently working with the Red Cross Minneapolis Chapter in International Services. Currently, Hawi is working with her team to conduct International Humanitarian Law classes(IHL) both for youth and immigrant populations living in the twin cities. Her research interest is in reconciliation and peace building as it pertains to her country of origin, Ethiopia. One of her most valuable experiences was co-facilitating a peace building working for African Diaspora peace activists around Europe while studying abroad in The Netherlands. During her senior year, she is planning to investigate the ways in which both the Ethiopian diaspora as well as those in Ethiopia could address the past and build a viable and just multi-ethnic Ethiopian state in the future.
