Becky is the Community Organizer and Codesign Facilitator at the Center for Civic Media at MIT (civic.mit.edu). In this role, she builds partnerships and nurtures collaboration with community partners and colleagues on projects at the intersection of technology and civic action. Prior to joining the Center, she managed the SaferMobile (safermobile.org) project at MobileActive, a program to educate and train activists, journalists, and human rights defenders in mobile phone security.
An activist and an explorer, Becky has worked domestically and internationally developing and researching the ways that social justice movements are using technologies to bring about progressive social change. She is particularly dedicated to the demystification of technology and the democratization of technology creation and use. She holds a B.S. in Comparative Media Studies from MIT and an M.S. in Information Management and Systems from the UC Berkeley iSchool.
