Women Living Under Muslim Laws

Edna Aquino is a human rights activist with particular focus on women's rights and migrants rights.  She was one of the initiators of the women's human rights programme at Amnesty International which laid the foundation for its global campaign to end violence against women launched in 2002.  She was one of the founders of the campaign for women human rights defenders which paved the way for the establishment of  r Women HUman Rights Defenders International Coalition in 2006.   She helped established the successful campaign for the right to stay for 'undocumented' foreign domestic workers and equal opportunities for Filipino nurses in the United Kingdom in the late 1990s.  She is currently a consultant at Women Living Under Muslim Laws where she helped established the Global Campaign to stop killing and stoning women (SKSW Campaign) http://www.stop-killing.org/ in 2007 and the Violence is not our Culture Campaign. She pioneered an ongoing  program to teach financial literacy to women migrant workers in Hong Kong.   She considers developing campaign strategies, project management, organisational development and capacity-building of local grassroot activists as her special interests.
