Dr. Freek van der Vet is a postdoctoral fellow at the Aleksanteri Institute for Russian and East European Studies, University of Helsinki, Finland. His work examines how human rights lawyers can incite social change through strategic litigation and how human rights defenders cope with dangerous circumstances. His publications appeared in The International Journal of Human Rights, Social & Legal Studies, Human Rights Review, and Review of Central and East European Law. He currently works on a project on the protection of journalists and human rights defenders at risk (www.freekvandervet.com).
