Organization:
Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC)
Country or Region:

The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) has identified Gender has a cross-cutting program. The Gender Programme supports GPPAC regions and programmes in integrating gender-sensitive peacebuilding perspectives into their work, and contributes a conflict prevention perspective to global advocacy efforts on women peace and security issues. The Gender Programme has two main objectives: 1) To support implementation of GPPAC's Gender Policy in GPPAC regions and programmes by assisting them to contextualise the policy and integrate gender-sensitive peacebuilding perspectives into their work; and 2) To contribute to global advocacy from the perspective of conflict prevention by emphasising the importance of women's roles in conflict prevention (as highlighted in UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security). Recent activities of the Gender Programme include the organisation of a learning exchange of Preventive Action and Gender experts from GPPAC South Asia, Southeast Asia, Eastern & Central Africa, Southern Africa and West Africa. The event was co-organised with the Women Peacemakers Program (WPP) and hosted by the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) in Cote d'Ivoire. In 2011 and 2012, the Gender Programme also organised two online dialogues in partnership with the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO) working group on Women, Peace and Security. Each October in New York, GPPAC meets with its Gender Focal Points from different regions of the network to attend and organise events around the anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
