Jane McPherson, MSW, MPH, LCSW.  Tallahassee’s lead organizer for One Million Bones, is an instructor and doctoral student at Florida State University (FSU).  Jane uses One Million Bones—a national art-action project bringing awareness to mass violence worldwide— to immerse students and community members in an experience that links art with social work practice and community engagement.

Since October 2011, Jane has organized bone-making events and installations at over 50 community locations including schools, senior centers, art galleries, a homeless shelter, an ice cream shop, programs for at-risk youth, and under Tallahassee’s “lynching” tree, where four men were lynched between 1897 and 1937.  The project has raised over $10,000 for survivors of mass violence through a partnership with Students Rebuild.

Jane is a licensed clinical social worker with almost 20 years of experience in the field. Motherhood, trauma, torture, and the special treatment needs of women have been her areas of clinical specialization. Jane’s work is both global and local in scope, extending from rural Florida to New York, Egypt, and Brazil.  Since 2010, Jane has collaborated with the Torture Abolition and Survivor Support Coalition (TASSC) to establish its social work internship program and to provide on-going program support.
