Matthew Hughes joined People to People International in August 2013. He oversees the development and implementation of instructional materials and educational programs that promote global competence and cross-cultural skills for both youth and adults. Mr. Hughes’ professional experience bridges the education and nonprofit sectors. A K-12 teacher for six years and fluent in Spanish, Matthew has accommodated instruction for diverse individuals from age 4 through adult learners. He has formalized curricula for schools and nonprofits, is a capable trainer and presenter, and has contributed to strategic-planning and accreditation efforts at multiple organizations. He also has experience traveling and living internationally, including South America and the U.S.-Mexico border. Matthew holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Arts degree in Global & International Studies from the University of Kansas. His thesis discusses “Opportunities for Global-Competence Education in Secondary Extracurricular Programs.” Matthew lives in Kansas City, where he has served on the board of several local nonprofit organizations and is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management & Innovation from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.
