Mirriam Mutindi Nthenge is a Research Fellow with UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the Open Society Disability Rights Internship Programme. She holds an LLM International and Comparative Disability Law and Policy from the Centre for Disability Law and Policy (CDLP) – National University of Ireland. Mirriam has vast experience on international obligations and national human rights frameworks having worked as a Human Rights Officer (Disability Focal Point) at Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. She has spearheaded projects on implementation of Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on legal capacity and Article 33 (2) on National Monitoring and Implementation. She has keen interest on legal capacity, national, regional and international human rights mechanisms, advocacy strategies for Disabled Persons Organizations and Sustainable Development Goals specifically Goal 4 on ‘inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’ . Mirriam is also a member of the Legal Capacity Network- Africa and a Steering Committee member of the ERC Voices project on right to legal capacity by the CDLP-Galway. She also volunteers with Users and Survivors of Psychiatry- Kenya and supports the institution specifically on international obligations.
