Toby is Professor of Political and Legal Anthrpology at the University of Edinburgh. He has carried out research on the prohibition of torture for over ten years, with fieldwork in Israel/Palestine, the UK and within the UN human rights system. Most recently he has been carrying out research on the difficulties involved in documenting torture and ill-treatment in low-income countries.
