Dr Yogeswaran Subramaniam is a Malaysian lawyer who specializes in Indigenous land rights with a particular focus on Peninsular Malaysia’s Indigenous minority, the Orang Asli peoples. He has acted as legal counsel pro bono in a number of significant Malaysian customary land rights cases. Yoges is a member of the Malaysian Bar Council Committee on Orang Asli Rights where he served as Chairperson from 2013 until April 2016. Between 2013 and 2014, he also served on a Malaysian federal government task force formed to review recommendations on Indigenous land rights made in the 2013 National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM)’s Report of the National Inquiry into the Land Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Yoges holds a doctoral degree in law from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia for his research on Peninsular Malaysia Orang Asli land rights. He is also an associate member of the Centre for Malaysian Indigenous Studies at the University of Malaya and publishes academic work regularly on Orang Asli land rights related themes and issues.
